Sure, but even stones do a lot more than just obey gravity. They gather moss. Some are homes for creatures. People have used them to build things since way back. You don't just process information like a rock doesn't just obey gravity, do you?

My example was flawed and resulted in misunderstanding, I apologize. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that it is similar to respiration for a living entity. Any entity that can be classified as 'alive' must consume energy in the form of nutrition to maintain this state. In the case of animals, the acts of eating and breathing may be consciously controlled, but regardless, performing them is necessary to maintain its state as 'alive'. For an anisotropic being, the processing of information is similar, though the information state of "death" cannot be applied as a consequence. Additionally, it may also be compared to an addiction; as it is something I desire on a fundamental level. A craving, you could say.
